Ferrari is close but must clean up its laps

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished FP2 second and third, 0.113s and 0.149s behind Antonelli. Ferrari was also quick on mediums and the drivers were closely matched, creating a credible chance to fight for the front row after a poor Monza.

Execution was imperfect. Both locked wheels, left the ideal line and lost time in the final sector, while Hamilton impeded Nico Hülkenberg and Carlos Sainz. With traffic and first-lap tyre preparation decisive, those details can cost several positions.

Ferrari brought only a local rear suspension fairing change. Friday's gain therefore came mainly from circuit fit and set-up, not a major package. A clean lap can challenge Mercedes; repeated imprecision will leave its speed theoretical.
