Haas broadens its evaluation before choosing its 2027 drivers

Haas ran Ryo Hirakawa, Leonardo Fornaroli and Rafael Câmara for three days at Portimão in the 2025 VF-25 under the testing-of-previous-cars programme. The team had already evaluated Toyota-backed Sho Tsuboi and Nirei Fukuzumi at Fuji, widening the pool while its 2027 line-up remains unconfirmed.

Oliver Bearman appears most likely to stay; uncertainty centres on Esteban Ocon, although Haas says the tests are not a decision against him. Fornaroli is the 2025 F2 champion and a McLaren development driver, Câmara is a Ferrari junior fighting for the current F2 title, and Hirakawa brings experience.

Ayao Komatsu says Haas is in no hurry. No lap times or ranking from Portimão were published, so the test creates credible options rather than a confirmed order.
