Haas delays its 2027 choice as performance slips
Ayao Komatsu says Haas is in no rush to confirm its 2027 drivers. Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon remain under evaluation, even though Bearman has scored 18 points to Ocon’s three, as the team first wants to improve the technical environment around both.
The context explains the caution: Haas has gone six rounds without points and suffered a double retirement at Zandvoort. Komatsu admits the grid’s smallest operation is struggling to match rival development rates under the new rules, so raw driver scores also reflect the car’s limits and inconsistencies.
Waiting keeps alternatives such as Rafael Camara and Yuki Tsunoda available but adds pressure on Ocon. Upcoming upgrades matter as much as individual standings because Haas must separate driver performance from what the VF-26 simply cannot yet deliver.
