Adelaide reveals its MotoGP layout and opens consultation

The future Australian Grand Prix project took a concrete step on Sunday: Adelaide’s proposed layout is now public. The South Australian Motor Sport Board lists 4.13 kilometres and 15 corners, incorporating reworked sections of the former Formula 1 circuit. MotoGP is scheduled to arrive in November 2027 under a six-year agreement running through 2032.

The unveiling does not mean construction is complete. Public consultation runs until September 20, 2026, with work scheduled to begin in December. Exact dates for the November 2027 races remain to be announced. Teams will face a new event replacing Phillip Island, without MotoGP race data for this layout.

The announced budget is around A$96 million. Simulations suggest a top speed near 343 km/h and a lap of roughly 1m26s: projections, not measured performances. Changes to parkland also remain a source of opposition.

The next step is therefore twofold: refine the project through consultation and turn the design into racing infrastructure. A hosting agreement, a proposed layout and a circuit ready for riders are three different stages of the same project.
