Márquez wins Aragón in two stages to revive his chase

Marc Márquez won Sunday’s Aragón Grand Prix ahead of Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi. With Saturday’s Sprint victory, the Ducati rider collects all 37 available points and closes to within 19 of Jorge Martín. His fourth Sunday win of 2026 is also his eighth in the premier class at MotorLand. Yet the roughly 1.7-second finishing margin conceals a race he had to rebuild.

The first obstacle came from his own preparation. Márquez says he forgot to disengage the device that lowers the rear of his bike. After attacking into the first corner, he found his Ducati too low through the next sequence. Bezzecchi and Martín went past; according to his account, the visible sparks therefore reflected an operating mistake, not a new mechanical failure. He quickly repassed Martín before closing on the leader.

The decisive move on Bezzecchi came at Turn 15 and continued side by side down the straight. Acosta used the battle to pass the Aprilia as well. The KTM then stayed in Márquez’s slipstream: taking the lead had not settled the race. Only after half-distance did the Ducati rider sustain a faster pace and build his advantage.

That sequence explains the result’s value. Márquez had to correct a mistake, regain the lead and retain enough speed to break clear of a still-resistant Acosta. Bezzecchi finished third from pole, with Alex Márquez and Martín completing the top five. Three manufacturers reached the podium, but Ducati took the win.

Above all, Aragón confirms Márquez’s ability to exploit one of his strongest tracks. It does not guarantee the same superiority at Misano. His next task is to repeat that efficiency on a different circuit without first having to repair a situation he complicated himself on the opening lap.
