Ogura's absence immediately reshapes the title race

Ai Ogura will miss the Aragon Grand Prix. The Trackhouse rider fractured his left hand near the thumb in a training accident in Japan, and an examination after he returned to Europe showed that surgery was required on Thursday. Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will take over his bike, while the team has not yet set a return date for Ogura.

The absence has a direct championship cost. Ogura is third on 203 points, 37 behind Jorge Martin. A full MotoGP weekend offers exactly 37 points across the Sprint and Grand Prix, so even if Martin fails to score, Ogura cannot use Aragon to reduce the deficit. Marco Bezzecchi is already six points ahead of Ogura, while Marc Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio trail Ogura by three and four points respectively. The two pursuers therefore have a direct opportunity to take third place from him.
