Norris has changed the tone of the title fight

At Zandvoort, Lando Norris took only seven points out of Kimi Antonelli’s lead. On paper, that is almost nothing: the Mercedes driver remains 83 points ahead. On track, the race told a different story. McLaren won after losing the lead, overturning a deficit of more than five seconds and resisting a more aggressive tyre strategy late on. This is not yet a championship swing; it is proof that Mercedes no longer controls the pace on its own.

Norris started from pole but lost the lead to Antonelli at the standing restart. After the final stops, the Mercedes began to struggle with its rear tyres. Norris closed the gap, passed Antonelli on lap 54 and reclaimed the lead from Hamilton in the same sequence. Under the late Virtual Safety Car, Mercedes put Antonelli on softs while McLaren kept Norris on hard tyres. The Briton still won by 11.536 seconds.

The standings continue to protect Antonelli, who remains the logical favourite. McLaren has now proved that it can win through tyre management, execution and race pace rather than relying on a favourable scenario. Monza will test whether that progress survives a very low-downforce circuit, just as Antonelli takes a power-unit grid penalty.
