Helmet radio clears another hurdle ahead of planned 2027 introduction

MotoGP's rider-radio project appears to have solved one of its main technical obstacles. Luca Marini, who has been heavily involved in testing, says the system has now reached a 'good level', helped by custom-moulded earpieces for each rider that improve both sound quality and comfort inside the helmet.

The first planned use remains limited: sending safety messages from Race Direction directly to riders, potentially from 2027. Marini is also testing a microphone that would let the rider reply to the team. That two-way communication is still under development, so it would be premature to describe MotoGP 2027 as having a full F1-style radio system.
