Ferrari refuses to abandon the SF-26: 80% of the work can carry into 2027

With Ferrari 145 points behind Mercedes in the constructors' championship, the team could be tempted to shift all resources to 2027. Fred Vasseur rejects that logic. Unlike the huge regulation change between 2025 and 2026, much of today's work can be reused next year: Ferrari's team principal estimates around 80% of current development will transfer to the 2027 project.

The focus should now move especially toward qualifying execution. Since the summer break, Ferrari has not put a car on the front row in any of the four qualifying sessions, while Vasseur believes its race pace remains competitive enough. Continuing to work on the SF-26 is therefore no longer just about rescuing 2026: Ferrari sees the end of this season as groundwork for next year.
