Márquez erases a 102-point deficit and takes the championship lead on countback
Marc Márquez completed a perfect Misano weekend: Sprint victory on Saturday, then another 25 points on Sunday. Marco Bezzecchi had kept the lead into Turn 1 after his record pole, but the Aprilia rider crashed on the opening lap. Márquez then dealt with Jorge Martín and later his brother Álex to claim his 78th MotoGP victory.
The result flips the championship. Márquez and Martín now have 274 points each, but the Ducati rider leads because he has more wins: five Grands Prix this season to Martín’s one. Most strikingly, Márquez was still 102 points behind seven rounds ago. Five wins in the last seven Grands Prix have turned an improbable comeback into the championship lead. Bezzecchi is now 33 points back.
