Alonso and Stroll will start from the back after changing engine components

Aston Martin has chosen Baku to introduce new power-unit components on both cars. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will therefore have to start from the back of the grid regardless of where they qualify.

Thursday was difficult as well: Alonso completed only nine laps in FP2 because of a suspected oil leak, while the two Aston Martins finished the session in the final two positions.

The weekend strategy therefore changes completely. For Aston Martin, qualifying becomes less about fighting for position and more about preparing for a race in which incidents, Safety Cars and alternative strategies will have to be exploited to move forward.
