Two qualifying sessions per weekend: MotoGP considers a change for 2027

According to Motorsport.com, MotoGP is considering holding one qualifying session for the Sprint and another for the Grand Prix in 2027. Currently, a single session determines both grids. The proposal has reportedly already been presented to the teams, manufacturers and championship organisers, but it has not yet been adopted in the regulations.

The outlet also reports that one stakeholder is pushing for three stages, Q1-Q2-Q3, rather than the current two. The precise weekend schedule remains to be defined. Two independent qualifying sessions would nevertheless change one key point: a poor result in one would no longer automatically determine the starting position for both races.
