Audi intends to pursue appeal over Tsunoda's Monza point

According to Motorsport.com, Audi has decided to follow through with its intention to appeal the decision not to penalise Yuki Tsunoda at Monza. Audi had officially notified its intention; the outlet now reports its decision to pursue the procedure, although a definitive filing has not been publicly announced.

At the restart following the red flag, the Racing Bulls car's hesitant approach to its grid slot prompted the race director to order an extra formation lap. Article B5.9.4 requires the driver responsible for such a lap to enter the pits and restart from the pit lane.

However, the stewards found that Tsunoda had positioned his car correctly, without obstructing the other cars. Crucially, they considered that the extra lap resulted from the race director's assessment, rather than directly from a driver error. Racing Bulls had also not been told that its driver was considered responsible.

The customary penalty would have been a stop-and-go, convertible to 30 seconds after the finish. With Tsunoda finishing tenth ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto, Audi could gain the final point if a penalty changed that order. The case also concerns how the rule should be interpreted at future starts. No hearing date has been announced, and the classification remains unchanged at this stage.
