Rins to leave motorcycle racing as he prepares a car racing project

Álex Rins has confirmed that he will leave MotoGP and racing on two wheels at the end of 2026. The Spaniard had two WorldSBK options but turned them down in favour of a car racing project that he finds more motivating. That project has not yet been finalised: neither the category nor the precise programme has been announced.

He will thus complete his 15th season in Grand Prix racing, having made his Moto3 debut in 2012. Runner-up in Moto3 in 2013 and Moto2 in 2015, Rins has six wins and 18 podiums in the premier class. After his successes with Suzuki, he won the Grand Prix of the Americas in only his third Grand Prix with LCR Honda, before a serious leg injury disrupted the subsequent course of his career.

Yamaha had already announced his departure at the end of the year. The new development is therefore his decision not to continue on another motorcycle. He still has to finish the 2026 season and set out the details of his move into car racing.
