Audi challenges Tsunoda's point at Monza

Audi has notified its intention to appeal the stewards' decision involving Yuki Tsunoda at the Italian Grand Prix. The move does not yet change the official classification; it gives Audi the option to pursue the case formally.

The incident came during the grid reset after the red flag caused by Charles Leclerc's crash. Tsunoda did stop in his 14th grid box, but his Racing Bulls was angled toward the inside wall. Race director Rui Marques considered the positioning insufficiently safe and ordered an extra formation lap before the cars lined up again.

The dispute centres on Article B5.9.4 of the 2026 Sporting Regulations, which requires a car responsible for causing an extra formation lap to enter the pit lane and restart from there. The stewards nevertheless concluded that the additional lap resulted from a preventive decision by race control and could not be directly attributed to Tsunoda. They also noted Racing Bulls had not been told its car was considered the cause.

Tsunoda ultimately finished 10th and scored one point. Gabriel Bortoleto finished 11th for Audi.

A successful appeal could therefore move the final points-paying place at Monza, but Tsunoda remains officially 10th for now. The case is also about where a driver's regulatory responsibility begins when race control adds a safety procedure.
