Sainz loses five places as penalties reshape the grid after qualifying

Carlos Sainz qualified his Williams ninth. He is now set to start fourteenth after a five-place penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under yellow flags. The stewards state that the signals were visible and that his team had also warned him over the radio.

The penalty moves Colapinto, Bearman, Lawson, Albon and Ocon up one place each. Colapinto therefore takes ninth and Bearman moves into the top ten on the grid: significant changes from the qualifying timesheet alone.

Sergio Pérez also receives a three-place penalty for impeding Piastri on a flying lap. He is nevertheless still expected to start twentieth, with the two Aston Martins’ larger engine penalties keeping them behind him. These positions reflect the decisions announced so far, before any further changes.
