Nakagami fractures his collarbone and his home weekend is over

Takaaki Nakagami’s Motegi weekend ended abruptly after a highside at Turn 11. The Japanese rider fractured his collarbone and has been declared unfit for the rest of the Grand Prix.

The injury is especially cruel because Nakagami had presented this wildcard as probably his final MotoGP race. His home appearance was meant to be both a sporting farewell and another step in his Honda development work.

Honda therefore loses one of its three riders at Motegi before qualifying even begins. Medical recovery now takes priority, with no return date announced at this stage.
